8 string prepared guitar, voice
Born in Chicago in 1959 and settled in Belgium since the beginning of the 1990s, Steve Gibbs is a specialist of the 8 string classical guitar, whose deep, tragic palette lends itself to great works of the lute, violin or keyboard repertoire. His career is divided between his work as a classical soloist, research and multidisciplinary creation.
After numerous prototypes, he has arrived at a model that enables him to approach all these different types of work with a single instrument, namely a fully fledged classical concert guitar with a system of embedded captors that allow him to exploit contact noise and string fractions that are normally unused.
Over 40 years of career, Steve has performed as soloist or co-creator in Asia, Europe and the USA. Alongside his training in Western classical music, he studied Carnatic chant in India (where he lived in the 1970s), as well as Buddhist chant and shamanist percussion in Korea.
